Gitanjali(Song Offerings) is completing a century and we are happy to present an illustrated edition as our homage to Rabindranath. We have obtained the illustrations from the special Macmillan edition (1927) of Gitanjali and Fruit Gathering (confining our volume only to the former0. The illustrations represent some of the best of the Bengal School. We have also used the text from this edition as there is near perfect match with the manuscript preserved as the Rothenstein papers in the Houghton Library, Harvard University, USA (acc.bMs 1159(1)). The changes from the first ever edition ( India House Society, London,1912) in the present volume ( poems 52 and 76) have been indicated through footnotes. on the occasion of the centenary of Gitanjali(Song Offerings) we present the text corrected by Rabindranath ( subsequent to the first edition) as evidenced in the Macmillan edition of 1919 as the authentic one with the hope that all future editions will be printed accordingly.
